I have a stock rear axle and 4:11 gears in my 48 F1. Does anyone know where I can find 3:73 or 3:50 gears? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

JobLot Automotive (800-221-0172) lists the 3.73 gears (8C-4209) at $250 a set in my catalog.

Hi Dennis,
According to the shop manual, the F1 came with either 4.27 or 3.92 gears. The F2's had 4.11's. You might measure your axle housing in case someone swapped rear ends already. The F2 had a 3" axle housing where the F1's measure 2.5" if I remember right.

This will make a difference when you go to order parts.

Another option is to use a 9" differential from 57-72 F100. Same axle length - nearly bolt-in swap and probably can be done cheaper than the $250 for new gears. The axle housing also measures 3" - same as the F2 stock.

I have about $150 in my 9" upgrade to 3.50 gears.

Thanks for the replys guys. Think I'll look into a 9" rear if I can find one for a reasonable price.
