I did a search, but after reading through about 10 pages of post hadn't found my answer yet so here it goes?. I am looking to put a set of 37x13.5x17 tires I have onto the truck and are in need of a lift.
Do I need to remove the leveling kit and the add a leaf and use a 6" or 6.5" lift? or can I just leave it how it is and put the lift on with the leveling kit in place?
Specifically I am looking at this lift to buy

1999-2004 Ford Super Duty F250 F350 Pro Comp 6.5" Lift Kit System

and hope it works with my <nobr style="color: darkgreen; font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; font-family: verdana, geneva, lucida,'lucida grande',arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" id="itxt_nobr_3_0">truck</nobr>, any info will be greatly appreciated.

yes, you do need to remove the leveling kit. the 6" lift kit will come with everything you need to lift it. and yes it should work with your truck

What kind of leveling kit does the truck currently have? Is it a spring modification, or a hanger kit?
If it is a spring modification, then it naturally comes out, when you remove the springs.

I believe it is a hanger modification kit, I can take some pics if that helps, I am just not 100% sure what needs to come off. thx

So you do have a hanger kit, and two things can happen. One, you can leave the hangers there and run the new spring. You will have to see how it sits after the install and you will either like it, or you wont. IF you dont like the way the truck sits, then you can remove the hangers and replace them with stock units.
Finding stock units may not be all that easy, unless you saved them and still have them.

Guess I should have added this:

If you keep the hangers, you might run into a problem with the sway bar links not being long enough. I would probably ditch the sway bar with that much front spring anyway, and you might run into a problem with the trac bar not being long enough.
The same is true for the front driveshaft.
Be aware that your rear driveshaft may have to be adjuste or the center support bearing lowered. I did not see any shims or sspacers for this in your pic above.
Brake lines will mmore than likely have to be replaced.

great, thanks. I am going to look for some stock hangers as I don't have the original ones. I dont want to deal with things not being long enough and just want the 6.5" only. Also do you know if the driveshaft shims and spacers are required, I thought they were optional, what are the risks of leaving them stock? thx

Ever get down to Southern Ca? Ive got a bone stock set of hangers. I lift a bunch of trucks and have some stock stuff laying around.
I suppose I could ship them but I would like to work out a bit of a trade. I see you have stock front leafs, and I am interested in taking those off your hands. I am also very interested in your stock front shock mounts and even perhaps your track bar mount.
I use these stock items for other things that I build and they could come in handy.

As far as your driveshaft, it is a concern if you have a two piece shaft. The center support may have to be lowered. I have these shims, and other shim stock in my shop, and if you have to lower it, this would be the time.
You will only know when you actually lift the thing.

Ive got an idea. Could you use some help lifting this truck?

I can offer the use of my shop if you bring everything that you purchased. No money exchanged, but it will probably take a full day of work. This means that you may have to spend the night in a local hotel, but we can get after it, and we can exchange some of your take off parts for the labor as long as you help out.
This may be a great idea, and minimize some expense. I know it will take some of the guess work out, and if anything is missing, or we have to make something, we have the luxury of having some decent tools and spare parts to choose from.

The offer is on the table, and I am willing to help you out. At least we can fix the potential problems, and Ive got all of the tools necessary to do it right.
Let me know, and we can schedule a time to get together.
Maybe even get a day of wheeling in while we are at it.

ya that would be great, I have no prob giving you my stock stuff in exchange for help installing it and the stock parts I need. The only thing is I rarely ever make it down to socal and dont know when I would be able to get down there. I could ship the parts to you, but the springs weigh a ton and would prob cost a fortune. I was thinking of calling one of the local 4wd shops here to see if they have any stock parts. But I def will see if I could work a time in the near future to come down to socal, b/c that would be the easiest, thx alot

No problem Ryan. The offer is open. Shipping these parts are probably not worth the cost.
However, I may be up in the bay area soon, so we might work something out.

If you find some time, we can have that truck lifted in a jiffy.
Keep in touch and lets see what we can work out.
