I posted in the 7.3 and 6.9 forums recently glow plugs and wiring harnesses and the info I received was great. Now I have another question and I think this is the right spot for it. What we are doing is installing a 1985 6.9 IDI diesel engine in a 1994 1.5 ton truck that was previously equipped with a 7.3 non turbo. The 7.3 blew up and we had the 6.9 layin around in an old rotten dump truck. With the help of the advice I got on FTE, I swapped all the harnesses, sensors and glow plugs off of the blown 7.3 and put them all on the 6.9. So I took off the pressure plate, clutch and flywheel off the 7.3 to install it on the 6.9, somehow the clutch plate got moved and I cannot rememember what direction it faces. Here are some pics:
Should the raised part of the clutch where the transmission shaft splines into it face the transmission or the Flywheel?? That is my main concern. Like I said, took it apart, went to lunch and when I got back it was moved. We put it together with the raised side facing out (toward trans) but I am still unsure. ANY imput is welcome and very appreciative!!!
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post but i need to get this thing done ASAP!
EDIT: There were absolutely no markings on the clutch disc at all that said "FLYWHEEL SIDE" like on other clutch discs Ive seen. However, theres a green paint dot on the side I have towards the flywheel. Any Clues?
The part of the clutch disc hub that sticks out goes towards the transmission.
If you hold the disc to the flywheel with it backwards the disc linings won't go up against the flywheel.

while I can't say that that is correct on your setup for sure, I will verify that every clutch I've ever seen will only fit one way. if you put it in wrong it'll be real obvious because it won't go together.
Try and flip it around for some peace of mind - I bet it won't fit. The way you have it looks correct to me.
Thanks for the info guys! Actually we did try and put it on the opposite way and it will fit either way. But with the way i have it in the picture, the clutch splines more on the trans shaft this way. I think it'll be fine now that ive had other opinions!
