How do i check the stroke?
I saw on here somewhere how to check the stroke on the 360-390 and i cant remember how to do it exactly. Does it have to be measured in the #1 cylinder? Can someone explain. Also 5 valve cover bolts mean its a 352 FE series correct?

Remove any spark plug that's easy to get at. Insert a wooden dowl ( or something similar) till it contacts the top of the piston. Turn the engine over till the piston is all the way down and make a mark on the dowl at the spark plug hole. Then turn the engine over till the piston is all the way up and mark the dowl the same as before. Remove the dowl and measure between the marks.
3 1/2" = 360
3 3/4" = 390
3 1/2" = 360

Here is my dilema, I have an oppurtunity to get a supposed 390 for free. A friend of mine has 3-4 FE motors, there all out of there vehicles, so not sure if there seized or not from sitting. Is there a way to tell other that measuring the stroke??
