Another one off piece out of the Strictly Custom shop for the 1ST-RIDE . Carbon fiber trans cover for a ''52 F-1 with a C-6 mounted as far back & high as possible with a Lokar shifter . It only weighs 19 oz. Have many more coats of clear to apply . Will use some small chrome plated button head bolts on it and the shifter boot ring.May have a grey boot made to match the interior .
Can we see more pictures of your interior? I am very intrigued! Thanks for sharing. I was just going to bang a new one out of sheet metal but this seems really neat. Did you make a wood form to lay in the carbon fiber? How did you get the right pressure and temp for the carbon fiber epoxy?
The proces began by modifying a good fiber glass trans cover . Cut out pieces , added pieces filled any cracks or holes with body filler & then sanded everything smooth . Applied the wax & surface coat had a cold one and bs'd with my buddy till the surface coat set up .Then hand laid 1 layer of 3/4 oz. fiber glass mat for the base surface the hand laid in 3 layers of carbon fiber . Let dry overnite ,pop it out with the help of air pressure ,trim , drill mounting holes , sand with 400 , apply gloss alphatic urethane ,repeat proces to achieve desired depth . Have more of that to do . Am currently working on the final phase of completion of the 1ST-RIDE -interior . Have some carpet items to be made =extend floor carpet section & make gas tank cover . Then make the under seat panels & console which will be 1/2 " ply veneered with American ribbon mahogany accented by inlayed decorative diamond inlays . That is the reason the doors , left fender & running boards are not installed . They would be suspect to damage when finishing the interior . Don't worry all will see pics of the art piece known as the 1ST-RIDE when it is finished . Real soon have the upholster lined up for this week .
