The changer on my '99 Expy EB went out and I am hoping to replace with a used unit (ebay???).
My changer is model F8VF-18C830-AE (Clarion). I found a Clarion unit XW1F-18C830-AB; will this changer work? I also notice that there is variety of similar changers with the same middle code (18C830) but different letters for the first four letters; are they all/some compatible? As I understand, the last 2 letters are manufacturing codes for dates and are not really relevant.
Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Was the one you installed to replace the old one the newest unit from clarion or just another unit for the expy. The reason I am asking is the display went out on my head unit, and I was thinking about buying just a new clarion unit and not another ford unit and was hoping the connections are compatilble?
The changer on my 99 Expy quit working and the label indicated that it was made by Clarion. There appears to be several flavor of this unit and they all have the same middle portion of the model number but different prefix and sufixes. As I understand, the last portion of the model number (sufix) has to do with production date, and hence it should not have an effect. There are several variation of the firts part of the model number, including the two I mentioned, and as far as I can tell, they all seem to be compatible...at least they were in my case.
I do not know if the Expy head unit is also made by Clarion, if it is, I imagine they would be compatible. In any case, you can always find reasonably priced replacement head units on ebay.
