Start with headers and a free flowing exhaust, summit has emissions legal shorty headers for your truck. Cobine those with a custom y-pipe running to a 2.5" or 3" single system with a free flowing cat (going to have to look to find something legal in CA) and a performance muffler of your choice.

Before you get a decent exhaust on that thing cams and heads will be a waste of money because it won't be able to exhale through the kinked up soda straw of an exhaust Ford put on the truck. Being in CA limits what you can do in terms of exhaust, but from what I have seen you should be able to put toghether a system that is a whole lot better than the stocker.

Thanks for the input. I did find the emission legal shortys they are on there way. next pay check should be cam and then heads intake and so on. only thing i am worrie about is all working with the truck intake and SD. Not having a mass air flow the truck shouls still run?

Don't get that cam, it won't work with SD and it will never pass california emissions even with mass air. You need an F4TE roller cam from a '94+ truck motor and you can add 1.7 roller rockers to that.
