ok i have read all i can take! i want to buy a 250 or 350 it sounds like i shoud stay away form the 6.0 i want a v10 but i hear so meany bad things about both .i have had both 4.6 5.4 no prob .is all the bull about 6.0 and v10 blown way out
I have 89000 on a 2004 V10 with no problems yet. Just doing regular maintenance, heck have not even had to do brakes yet. My brother in laws V10 122,000 miles on the clock, 1 fuel pump at 111,000 miles 1 blown plug 2 weeks ago, which ended up being an easy fix. And he does not baby that truck at all. From what I read on herethe V10 is very reliable. Take into consideration how many ford trucks are on the road and I think the percentage of problems would be on par or better with any other brand out there.
i will be towing a6500 lbs tt. and i have read the trans will not hold up . look i love every ford i have had i dont undstand all the prob i have read about
The trans will hold up just fine.
The 4R100 is not the best trany in the world but its pretty tough.
I have taken over 300,000 pounds of scrap in with my NPI v10 and 4R100 with out any throuble.
I would get a 00-04 PI V10, they have more power than the NPI 97-99s do.
I can't say what the wieght is on an extra cab, but my '04 crew cab, short bed Lariat with a V10 and bed cap is 7,000 lbs exactly without me in it. BTW, I would look very hard at getting a crew cab if you have to regularly haul people. I was gonna go with an extra cab, but after my 9 year old sat in the back of one with his knees against the front seat, I decided to go with a crew cab and haven't been sorry yet. They're essentially the same price anyway and not too much longer.
Most of the tranny problems have been on chipped diesles, atleast all the people I know that have had them repaired or replaced, none were V10s. I pull a 8500lb bumper pull TT with mine, and knock on wood no problems yet.
