I'm planning on installing a hitch on my 98 Expy 5.4 4x4 3.73.
It wasn't orig purchased with a tow pkg. I intend to add a tranny cooler as well. My question relates to hitch ratings. I realize the capacity differences between the class 3 and class 4 especially as it relates to the weight distributing drop bar. But aren't the receivers actually the same? I've been quoted a price difference of 30-50 dollars. I tow a 22' boat that with trailer and loaded approaches 5k.lbs. Am I overlooking something? Thanks
The actual capacity of the hitch receiver (and cost differences) are likely due to the thickness of wall material on the tubing AND attaching points. I've seen many aftermarket class 3 with 4 attachments and class 4 with SIX.
