clunking from drivers front side

I have a horrible clunking sound coming from the drivers side of my 1995 F-150. I originally thought it might be the speaker loose in the door and rattling around, or something like that. I recently noticed that the sound has gotten worse, and it only happens when I hit some kind of bump in the road. I now believe that it is coming from the suspension around the front left wheel, but haven't gotten underneath to check it, it's been pretty cold around Washington DC this week! Does anyone have an idea about what this could be, or what I should concentrate my attention on?

Hi-
From what your describing I'd put money on the radius arm bushing. They're cheap, and you can change them with a chain, a come-along and two trees.

clunking from drivers front side

Check everything out. I replaced all my tie rods and my right ball joints. I started hearing a dull thud from the drivers side front. I jacked it up a couple months ago and checked everything. All looked well. It started getting louder and steering felt a little sloppy. Checked it again last week and my drivers lower ball joint was about to snap. It must have been binding when I checked it before. Spent all of fri. and sat. replacing them in single digit ohio weather. Better safe than sorry

I would jack the front tires off the ground, one at a time, and see if you can pull the bottom (or top) of the tire out towards you. My lower ball joints were bad and they mad a little noise.

Good Luck!
