Any time you're dealing with an EFI engine, you want to pull codes first. There may be multiple issues going on. Unfortunately with the early EFIs, there was a common surging cold idle problem, and I've never found anyone that had a solution. With mine, I did the a complete throttle body tear down and rebuild, tested or replaced every sensor and solenoid on the thing, tried a different wiring harness, and replaced the computer, all to no avail. The throttle body tear down made things a little better, but didn't fix it. Interestingly enough, the problem dissapeared when I did the mass air conversion, even though I used all the same components except for the computer. Given that, I'm thinking its a programming problem in the 85-86 computers.
