If I can get 9mpg with a 10,000# travel trailer (read: air foil) behind me, you can get over 10 with your setup.

The biggest thing on fuel mileage is how much wind you are pulling with you.
IMO, the second biggest is how you drive. If you give it 1/2 throttle from a start and take your time to get up to speed and run 60 on the highway, it will be pretty good.
If you run it foot to the floor and try to keep up with traffic all the time, it will be crap.

I guess your mileage will depend on how much you care for the horses you have on board Me, I drive alot like a grandma when I have horses in the trailer, 65 m/h max on good smooth roads. I just wish we had more smooth roads around here instead of the hilly, twisty, bumpy roads/highways

Not sure about my mileage, as our gallons are bigger then an american gallon, but ussually around 20Litres per 100km on good roads.

Towing a 5th wheel - approx 8,000 fully loaded up - getting around 9 mpg, you should have no problem. Will be interesting to hear how its does with the skid loader.

I keep hearing that with the 5.4 I can kiss towing goodbye too......hmmmm must be a diesel lovers thing Back when the floods happened in cedar rapids, ia, i lost my 91 250 in it. Was heading down into the flood zone to help a friend evacuate & I hit about 4ft of water. My hubs thinks the cat sucked up water & we couldn't get her started back up so i had to leave it. Well when the water went down i took the KR in & pulled the old truck home. my cousin was going to pull it first cuz he didn't trust me with the trailer - no trailer brakes & I have ***** - but his little dodge truck darn near sank to the ground LMAO. he didn't have a choice then!! BTW - the truck was submerged up over the steering wheel for 4 days - pulled the engine out & it still ran!!!

Granted, I am slow on the gas pedal & leave the OD off when pulling but I tell you what, she'll haul very well!!! Hills suck!! Once up to speed though I can't tell i have anything back there. i have pulled quite a few loads that were good size & have never had any problem.

Btw - mines the 03 5.4 in the 250

It'll do fine

Others have already said this, but the 5.4 is a capable motor and will tow that load w/o problem. Too many people expect to tow a 10k trailer and not know anything is behind the truck...that won't be the case here. It will do the job and get the trailer from A-B.

Just let the engine and torqshift do its thing. It wil ldownshift and rev like crazy, let it be and the truck will not disappoint you.

The 4.10 rear end will make a difference as well.
