Next, don't be so shy about asking questions on here. I really hope they replaced more than your FPR for $750. Here's what one costs Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines

Maybe they replaced the IPR or ICP instead. That's still probably double or more than what you could have done it yourself for.

In the mean time, start your truck, unscrew the oil cap and flip it upside down. Place it over the oil fill tube and watch to see if it shoots off the tube or just vibrates around for a second and slides off.

If it just vibrates and slides off, shut the truck off and remove the fuel filter. Is there any sign of oil in the bottom of the fuel filter bowl? Also inspect your air filter. Are you still running the stock filter? Pull the lid off the filter and look inside the tube going back to the turbo. Is there any dust or dirt inside that tube?

When I take the oil cap off with the truck running, it puffs smoke out. Seems like it might have a compression leak into the valve cover? I won't say that it shoots the cap off, but I can really feel air pressure coming out of the oil filler.

Smoke is of no concern at all. Pressure is not good. How much does the pressure change between cold and hot? You're not running a K&N filter are you?

Don't know about the change between cold and hot. The truck was warm (driven within the last hour) when I tried it. The pressure came in puffs like a smokestack on a train engine. Made me think that it was a compression leak from at least one cylinder. I'm thinking possibly bad valve guides, bad injector... I don't really hear a compression leak, but to me a diesel is noisy enough that I might not hear it. Maybe I am hearing a problem, but I think it is normal? Are these plausible explanations to the cause of the problem?

Thanks
Wilson

It does not filter enough for these engines. Does your oil cap slide off or blow off?

I won't say that it shoots off, but it will not stay on the oil filler. If I take my hand off of it, it is off the filler tube. It does not sit there and vibrate off. It has enough air pressure that it is riding on a cushion of air.

I agree about the knowledge base of this group. When compared with the general population of Diesel mechanics, FTE rocks.

I've been trying to figure out how to how to send Joe (Izzy350) a PM. This forum is set up differently from other forums that I frequent. I had thought that I could access it from his personal info, but I did not see anything that looked like a it was meant to be a PM. Maybe I am just dense.

I've been trying to do some minor diagnostics, but it will probably be a week from Sunday before I can take the valve covers off to do a compression check. 12 hour days leave little time to take care of things that need to get done. With luck, things will slow down for a while.
