93 Explorer Brake pulse
We have a 1993 Explorer that the brakes pulse on when doing anything but minor braking. You don't feel it so much in the peddle but the whole car chatters. When we got the car I figured it just needed the drums and rotors turned, but doing that didn't change it at all.
The only thing left I can think of is the ABS system. I have checked the sensers in the front wheels and the rear axle and they seem to give the right reading. The manual talks about the RABS but I don't think this vehicle has that as I can't find any of the components it talks about. I am presuming you either have RABS or ABS but not both? The ABS light does come on occasionally but then goes back out on its own. We checked the computer with a reader and it didn't say anything about the brakes.
Anyone else run into anything like this or have any suggestions short of taking it to the shop?
Thanks for any replies or suggestions
follow the wire from the front sensors. they should go directly back to the ABS computer. On my '95 it is near the battery
unplug the ABS computer. It will disable the ABS but I bet the pulsing goes away. You probably need to replace or clean the front sensors. on my '95 the rear sensor mounts onto the rear axle in a well
