Im looking at this picture of a Mustang Saleen S7 and I am wondering why can't we have this engine by the way its a 7.0L 16V V-8 550Hp 525lb-ft why?????? its $395,000
Saying that a GT-40 is like a Vette is ridiculous. You are comparing a full production to a concept car (lest they actually put it in to limited production it is still not full production). The Mustang Cobra is a good comparison but only in its Supped up form. I would take a stripped down V-6 Stang over a Vette anyday though. Who in there right mind wants to careen down the highway wrapped in fiberglass anyway!
Sorry guys, I had a Ford Mustang and I was careening down the freeway wrapped in Fiberglass. Oh, and the GT-40 is not a concept car. It was produced, and removed from the market. It is now being re-introduced on a limited production line. It has hit the market though. Which brings me to my next point: Please don't compare the GT-40 to a vette. Talk about apples and oranges. The GT-40 is a mid engine race car with street legalities, while the vette is a luxury sports car with a long nose and power that gets blown away by a truck! Come on, chevy couldn't possibly come up with competition for the GT-40. Let's take a look at Chevy's last try at a mid-engine car. Do we all remember the Fiero? If it was hot outside they wouldn't start because the started overheated. Yeah, I had two. Didn't learn the first time. What about the Corvair? Talk about underpowered. The GT-40 is, was and forever will be the leader in public production sports cars.
Anyone see what Saleen is doing with the new T-birds? With over a $40,000 sticker price as is I don't want to know what there going to cost after saleen is done with them. Almost sounds like it may outrun a Vette. With a 3.9L!

I, too like the GT40, but this statement is totally false. Let's see Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari Pinanfarina, Sallen S7, all three will leave the GT40 in the dust. Ford is a company built on the reputation of durable, tough trucks and family vehicles. Let the Sports Car companies do what they do best.
I agree with Russell. The photos I've seen of the GT-40 look really cool, but I've never actually seen one on the road. Yet I've seen plenty of *exotic* sports cars and the domestic Vette's are everywhere.
I see the GT-40 as more of a promo. Ford probably won't break even making them, but it draws attention to the brand.
That Saleen S7 looks like the perfect car to indulge a your fantasies in...
