Losing Reverse
Any way I have a 1990 Full size Bronco XLT with a 302FI 4WD.
I'm not sure of the tranny. It's a 3spd W/Overdrive I believe.
The tranny code is a "T".
Well the problem is this...
I use the truck to plow snow.
The tranny seems fine till I hit a snowbank hard.
I lose reverse. When I tow it back and drive forward Reverse comes back.
Seems like the reverse gear works ok if I don't hit the banks "too hard ".
The tranny fluid does smell burnt and it's pretty dark.
Please Help.
try changing the fluid, and if you dont have an aftermarket trans cooler, buy the biggest one you can find. plowing snow makes the trans generate a tremendous ammount of heat, and high heat kills auto trans quickly. an aftermarket cooler placed in front of the radiator will extend the life of the trans a good bit.
i know what im talking about, i work for a township in PA plowing snow for a living. (I also have to fix all the equipment)
