i want to upgrade my front axle from dana 44 to a dana 6o. what years can the donor axle be from? how much fabrication is involved? my truck is a 76 f250 4x4
No. The larger diameter ring gear and the sheer size differences between the two axles means that the stock driveshaft is way too long. Combine this with the fact that the 78/9 axle is a high pinion axle and if this is used to replace a low pinion axle, then the driveshaft is wayyyyyy to long and will have to be shortened.
If the early power assist is also being used, the mount for the ram will have to be modified. The diameter of the dana 60 is larger than the 44, so this will have to ba addressed as well.
