Have really taken it's toll on my '88. I was washing it this morning and I noticed rust coming through the rear wheel wells. Very depressing to see that happen to such a nice truck.
I'm not so sure it's worth the money to fix. Most body shops seem to avoid rust repair at any cost. I've damned near rebuilt this thing from stem to stern and now the body is going to hell on me. At least the cab is still in great shape.
Yeah rust is common on these trucks in a few places, the rear cab corners and over the rear wheels in particular. It's because of the way the inner and outer panels come together in those places, it traps dirt and moisture and rusts from the inside out. I have to fix the fenders on our old Ranger every spring now, I cut out the old metal and weld in patches and then smooth it all with bondo. But petty soon It won't be feasable anymore with rust slowly turning the whole cab floor into swiss cheeze so we'll probably retire it. I replaced the whole bed on my F150 a couple years ago because it was totally gone.. floor and fenders.
i know up here in northern B.C the winters beat the hell outta my pickup. i look at some pics of the trucks that live in the south and wish my truck was as rust free as there's.
