Internet Grand Theft Auto

Well, not exactly...

Man accused of disabling 100 cars over Internet - Security- msnbc.com

(link should work, but it may skip past the article -- try the back button, and it should go there)

To sum up, a disgruntled emplyee at a dealership activated some anti theft/gps systems on 100 or so vehicles. Some he was able to disable, and the others would beep constantly. From what I read it seems that these systems were options for customer benefit, but the dealership also used them in case you didn't pay.

I believe that he could access these systems over the internet. I'm sure that he needed passwords etc, but I wouldn't want a system lilke that on any of my vehicles.

my friends brother had one in his VW he bought used. if you dont make your payment they deactivate the car. only problem is if the payment wasnt recieved by the last day of the month at 3pm they deactivate. so more then once he would mail out the payment and it wouldnt show up until the day after it was due. so they shut the car down. so after looking it over, we found it was just a little computer hooked into the cars computer. so we unplugged it and mailed it into the dealer with the last payment.
