My engine temp. light is on and the gauge says it runs perpetually cold, ever since I got it, but the temp. light just came on. I replaced both temp. sensors, I think that's all of them, unless there's a third somewhere. Only logical conclusion: thermostat. Any ideas? And if it turns out to be the thermostat stuck open or whatever, how hard is that to fix?
So running cold everything is OK?
The normal temp gauge does not move or just comes up a bit after warm up?
How long running does the engine temp light take to come on and what does the normal temp gauge indicate?
Everything seems okay, the gauge does not move at all, sometimes it wanders up and almost touches the normal area line, and the engine temp. light is on as soon as I start it up. I just replaced the sensors and while they were in the light was actually disappearing for a while only to spontaneously come back. It's has to be more than the sensors.
What part numbers did you purchase?
Gauge temp sensor is just a variable resistor, common.
Engine over temp sensor is a switch, either off or on.
They are different sensors.
I'm not sure which numbers I purchased, but I'll see if I can find the receipts or boxes tomorrow, I replaced the one on the water pump and the other one a bit to the left of it behind the alternator bracket. Neither was a switch, they both have the simple stud connection.
