Hello folks I'm new to the site. I've been lurking for a while. I've searched the forum looking for the problem I have, but to no avail.
2002 F-250 Power Stroke (7.3) 150,000 miles. My anti-lock brake light is on, but it seems like I still have anti-lock. I "tested" this by going to a local gravel yard, started driving about 30Mph, then slammed on the brakes, no skidding, the pedal pulsed like it did before the light came, braked straight.
Any suggestions?
I would bet it is a sensor or something. I have a f450 here at work that had an intermittin(sp?) light and I used my ABS scanner and found that it was actually the parking brake switch that was sticking and throwing the light. If you use the parking brake alot like on a manual, check the switch it is right above the pedal on the mounting bracket and make sure it moves in and out with no binding, if not spray some WD40 on it and work it loose. Another test is to put the Parking Brake on and see if the brake light on the dash illuminates, if not it is def. the switch. Your mileage may vary just giving you an easy one I ran into. I know there are at least three sensors, one on each front wheel and one in the Diff. (if you have 4 wheel ABS). But without an ABS scanner you won't know for sure what your problem is. HTH.
If you have any problems also with the speedo it will be the rear sensor. The one on the rear diff pumpkin. You will see it, on top, only thing there with a wire harness on it. Some have had luck removing and cleaning it, others had to replace it.
But like was stated above, you will need a scanner with the abs feature to read the code and see exactly what it is.
