Can anyone tell me if a zf5 tranny, model #307150081, is the 87-92 diesel application? I have a 89 f250, 7.3 that needs a tranny, I just don't want to buy the wrong one. The guy that has it says that it has a manufactured date of 92 on it.
Do I need the other numbers off of the plate to tell??
I don't know the model # but there will be a plate with the gear ratios.
It will have ZF542 and 1st gear ratio will be 4.14, the gas versions have a lower ratio.
Here is a link that might help, aparently the diesel was either 4.14 first or 5.72 and as far as I can tell the gas was only available in the 5.72.
This sucks as both of mine are 4.14 and if the 5.72s are available for diesel that is what I want.
