I'm looking at buying a 1983 F100. It has the 302 V8 and automatic transmission. I don't know how many miles it has. It has some rust, but not alot. My question is: Are there any known problems with these years of trucks that I should be aware of?
Also, I did some research and found that the Custom trim was only available for the '80-81 models. This truck has Custom printed above the radio. Also, it said the plain grille was deleted after '81 in favor of the grille with the Ford emblem on the front. This truck has the plain grille.
Did someone just swap out the grilles or am I looking at a '80-81 listed as an '83? Thanks!
But in my opinion these are great trucks. Very easy to work on, strong and durable. An they just keep on running!
I would say that it is indeed a 83. Considering that it doesnt have the stock 80-81 ford bumper. Also it seems that they swapped out the mirrors, and switched the grill as you stated.
Appears to have the common rust spots, (lower areas behind rear tire, and bottom of cab corners.) But with alittle time you can get those fixed.
How much are they wanting for the truck?
Looks like it would be a fairly good truck to have around as work horse!
Thanks, that's just what I wanted to hear!
The dealer is asking $1200. Some rust, looked like the odometer showed 20k-30k (might be 230k). Interior is in good condition, dash has some cracks.
If it really has 230k, what would be the chances that it would be a semi-reliable vehicle? I don't know a whole lot about the 302. 300s are my specialty.
use your best judgment. This is a very old truck, but for 1200 your not going to find much better than this. Just think, not having fuel injection eliminates a lot of hard to diagnose problems. It may run like crap every now and then but it will usually get you where you need to go on its worst day.
My advice, drive it drive it and drive it some more.
I got under my truck and noticed not a single sign of oil seepage or drips. Then I checked the oil, coolant, transmission fluid.
If it runs and drives good and can start/stop over and over like a clock chances are its going to continue to do that.
Thanks! I got a guy coming to look at my Toyota tomorrow. If he buys it, I'm going to guy take a look at this truck. If he doesn't buy it, I'm going to try and trade in my car on it.
