does anyone know if there is a disc brake conversion kit for a dana 70.
preping frame and redoing front end on my 77-78 crew cab and would like to upgrade now before i put cab and bed back on.
Yes there is.......BUT it uses Chevy calipers. AND, the back of the hub must be turned down....or have the pilot hole enlarged on the rotor. You can make one yourself....using all Ford parts. However, it's about 3 times more expensive. Check out
Oh...there may be one slight problem. What Dana 70 do you have? Your axle is probably considered a DRW axle. If so, you will have to space the bracket a couple inches towards the wheel.
Now the tcase break is a good idea I hadn't even thought of. I was going to chime in and suggest a hydraulic E brake kit, which are about $100 and available everywhere and are NOT designed to be applied and left for days at a time, but would work fine for help when youre wheeling and parking and such. And you could just chock it when you'll have it on an incline for an extended period of time.
I used a Dana 60 disk brake kit (brackets) and as HillBillyDeluxe mentioned you need to turn down the flange of the hub to make it work. And enlarge the rotor holes as well. It works but I am glad to see the correct brackets with the offset are now available. Thanks for the link HBD. Turning down the hubs did cause a problem for me with the wheel studs. I have had several spin and had to be broken off and redone. Live and learn I guess.
