I'm planning on moving from Maine to philidelphia sometime around September or October and was wondering how many people are from the area.
I normally make the 9 hour trip there to see the little lady and was hoping to meet some new people.
Also what shops and garages are around the area. One reason for moving is to start a business but hopefully there isn't much direct competition.
Any info on this would be great.
PM me or post in this thread. Thanks guys
my girlfriend is from philly and she moved up here to get away from the city BS....her family is still around there and we go visit quite often...good luck with your move....
UNTAMND, i am sorry for ignorant comments i had made in this thread. they have been removed, but that doesn't change the fact that i was out of line. sorry for being low class in a great place.
I am about an hour east of Philly, by the jersey shore. We have g2g's all of the time in either North Jersey or Connecticut. We'd be more then happy to have you come up for one.
Moved to PA about 20 years ago from the Midwest and settled near Reading.
Philadelphia within the city limit is tough for business because there are a ton of city regulations and taxes. Many move south to Deleware and several to NJ across the river, but NJ is also bad news for taxes and regulations.
Many move out near Mike where the taxes are more reasonable, electricity is cheaper, and the folks can be good neighbors. Problem is now you are 60 miles from the airport or downtown and the morning commute is a killer. Many people live just off the PA turnpike near Morgantown, Lancaster and Reading.
Thanks guys for remembering, yep, I'm about 50 miles from Philly and know Philly like the back of my hand. If you need any assistance on where to move and where not too, let me know, lived in the suburbs outside Philly for 38 years.
The girl is buying a townhouse in north whales. Already under contract and will move in first of July. Maybe earlier if the current owners find a new house.
There is a garage on the corner of decalab pike and welsh rd that I'm nterested in. Used to be a tire shop. 5 bays and decent office. 5 min from her house. No idea a price but I'm assuming a lot. It's on a major road, and business is expanding quick into that area from what I can see.
I'm looking for other places for sure but this one is pretty neat.
Well, you going into a well to do area, North Wales. Alot of high priced properties and the location for your shop, theres alot of volume, business, traffic ect. I know exactly where your looking, I used to serve a wharehouse up in the town of North Wales, very nice area with alot of shopping. Depending on price of the shop-property, this is a great place to get started, alot of traffic.
Hello UNTAMND,
I live in Chalfont, 15 - 20 minutes from North Wales, that's a nice town, allot of businesses in the area and allot of these trucks, a good shop that specializes in diesel would be a nice addition to the area, good luck with the move, prices for real-estate in the area can be pricey, lots of population for potential customers. Good Luck.
I've called on the 5bay garage I had mentioned, but the person has not called me back. I'll call next week again. The place I had mentioned was a 5bay tire center built in the early 80s. Next month I'll gland check it out more in depth but I'd like to talk to the agent and find out some basic prices. I am sticking in Maine until sept when I've put in my two years at my current job. Then I'll look for a job in the surrounding Philly area.
Know of any shops hiring a cnc machinest. Or a manual machinest.
The shop I open will be automotive and truck garage and I'll add some machine tool stuff. Would like to do custom engine machining and building. I've have a broad background and think I can add a very diverse garage to the area.
Any info and help is welcome. Thanks guys.
