I saw this little surprise today, all the way to the back of the bed (just up against the sheetmetal that faces the bumper) I found a light fixture!
It looks factory-ish. Not a kludge. It's not hooked to anything right now (cut wire)
What is this? help you see when you pull the spare tire out? Its on the drivers side, so it wouldn't help with unhooking the spare. It's facing pretty straight down. I'm gonna run a test wire to it, just to see what it does.
Factory tag mount and tag light for non rear bumper equiped trucks. Many trucks were shipped without rear bumpers, so the customer could opt for a fancy aftermarket bumper.

Your kidding...
I can't get a CD player without getting tinted windows and leather, but in '85 I could order a truck without a bumper? I'm surprised they would take the effort to do that. People still put different bumpers on today, they just have to remove the factory one first...
Likewise, I'm surprised they shipped all trucks with this light, even if it came with a bumper...
it's only on non bumper trucks. funny how things change. now you get all the stock stuff even if you don't want it. no wonder manufacturers are goin belly up.

Granted, someone could have put a factory bumper on my truck at a later time, but I have a factory bumper...
Kinda funny, but a rear bumper wasn't standard equipment in those days, except a couple states that enacted laws requiring bumpers on the rear of all trucks. Texas was one state that had such a law.
