Ok to start with I dont really want to be bashed for asking this question. I have spent all day searching this site and others for an answer with no luck. If you dont wanna be helpful please just move along and pick another post to read. I want to know how to tell if I have 44's or 60's under my truck. Just bought it about 3 weeks ago now. I've been under it a dozen times or better. Any tags on everything under her have either been painted over or removed. All I want to know is how to tell the difference between a 44 and a 60. I dont know how much of this truck is stock and how much has been changed. The engine was originally a 360 and she now sports a 390. It's a 4 speed. '76 F-250 Ranger XLT? I question that too because I dont belive the "Ranger XLT" came out till '77 but thats the badge on the glovebox... so, any help here would be great! thank you
look on the center section on one of the four corners where it ends and the axle tube starts. i think it's on the back side bottom. there will be a stamp, it will be a small 44 or 60
hell that was easy, 2 wrenches and about 30 seconds under the truck, 44 under the nose and a 60 in the rear. im gonna guess that was probably factory. door tag says 24J under axle
If you spot a 60 in the webbing be sure it's a "0" and not a "C" the D44HD is stamped 6C and is often mistaken for a D60 since they both share the huge 4.5" hubs.
its dark out so i went with the easier option of the cover bolt sizes lol but that is hady to know. i hope to get under there and scrape anything thats stamped tomorrow. i guess as far as printed im just s.o.l.
The Ranger XLT package was available in 1976 and for several years earlier. I'm quite sure it was available for several of the "Bumpside" years as well.
looks like we got our trucks at about the same time. i picked up a 78 f250 on feb 9, i asked the same question, and no one bit my head off, most everyone has been really nice and helpful. you should post some pics of your truck too.
