Gene,
Think about it. Do you really want to put as much weight as a 1 ton can carry on those little axle shafts and single bearing? Axles can and do break.
Don't do it!
Just my $.02
Greg
gene,
are your exsisting springs 3" wide or 2.5" wide?
if they are 3" you can put any 3/4 ton dana 60 or 70 rear axle from a 73-79 and some others all the way to 96 will fit under your truck along with the springs.
if they are the 2.5" varity I am not sure if the wider springs will fit the spring mounting brackets.
also the driveshaft will have to be shortend a couple inches because the dana axle reaches farther foward than the 9" ford.

Gene what are you planning on doing with this truck? just wanting to add some springs to haul loads a little better? or as a 1 ton?
The first to upgrade the spring pack you will need
1) torch (opt.)
2) new springs
3) new I bolts
4) new U bolts
5) floor jack and jack stands
6) nice level concrete floor
more to list but we need to know what you are planning to do with this truck.
If you intend to use it as a 1 ton you might as well junk it now.
the frame is week compared to a f-350 even if you put all the f-350 parts you will bend the frame. I did this to my trusty ol 68 f-100 now its getting a 4x4 f-250 frame (next project)
1/2 tons are intended for driving truck and light loads not exessive loads I have had two 1/2 ton trucks and over worked them both now I buy only 3/4 or 1 ton's
