i my other post i stated that i have regular front leafs that sagged like three inches from when bought new so i added a 1 inch tuuff country add a leaf that just about level the trucks, love the ride and its been holding for two years. problem now is that the original two springs are starting to s shape from the pressure of the add aleaf and being weak. so i want to put on x code springs can someone with the 5.4 and running 285 75r16 take a measurement for me to see if its going to be tall enough or if I'm going to have to buy a two inch level kit. right now from center bolt to center bolt of shock mounts i have 19 1/2 to 19 3/4 of length. i think this is the best way to measure because not all tires are the same and everyone doesn't run same air pressure. please let me know cus I'm afraid that one of the springs is going to crack and might cause me to crash.
AH i dont mean they are cracked i've had mud trucks before that the rear springs get weak start wheel hopping and crack. never had a front do it or seen one break but the s shape is getting worse and this winter messing around in all the snow we had the front is starting to wheel hope bad. so thats why im getting rid of them. khxor so your truck is actually a 1/4 inch higher than mine?? sweet maybe now ill be a little more level but not enough to ruin my loaded ride height. ok any one know the part numbers for the x codes for a 04 350 ex cab short bed with 5.4 or are all x code part numbers the same??
i dont know what factory springs i have all i know is that they are not x codes and that sagged like crazy, thats why i put the 1 inch tuff country spring in and i love the ride. its not real hard but it rides smooth over bumps and stuff, how do yous like the x code ride? im sure they should be the same as my stock with add a leaf i hope. any harder and it might rattle the truck apart. also whats the part number so i can go order them
It is definately not a smooth ride, but I've never driven another SD so I can't give a comparison between x-codes and other springs. I think your truck should weigh a little more than mine so it's possible it might sit a fraction lower.
I can get measurements from my shop tomorrow, but what are your concerns, that 285's won't fit? Or are you worried about your truck sitting front high?
i know 285's will fit, they fit before i put on the add a leaf even with the saggy front springs. im not worried about the front being to high because i had a long custom made add a leaf made last summer to help with payload and axle wrap so my back actually sits a little higher now. im really just sick of the front springs and they bang now because of the add a leaf when they droup. so im getting the x codes and putting energy suspension bushings in them. i just need part numbers please??
I just measured mine--it is exactly 20 inches from center to center of the front shock mounting bolts. My "X" code springs are about 4 years old, and have carried a Fisher 8 foot plow for those 4 years. I had "T" code springs in mine originally and the "X" code springs raised the truck about 2 inches. The part number for "X" code springs back then was 2C3Z-5310-AF . It might have changed since then. Give that number to your local Ford dealer---if it has changed, his parts system will come up with the new number.
