hey all i could use some help. I might try and pick up a friends 2008 F350 that his wife put over on its side at a local auction. engine compartment wasn't damaged at all but for the engine techs, would there be any concerns i should be worried about with the diesel being on its side for an hour or so when it got wrecked? i cant think of anything that would be damaged, with oil being in sloshed around, but then again i dont know alot about the turboed diesels. thanks for any input
The inertia fuel shutoff switch should have killed the engine when the accident happened. Only way coolant could mix with oil would be if the head gasket were compromised. The cooling system is sealed, therefore regardless of which angle the engine is sitting at contamination shouldn't be possible.
The biggest things I'd watch for would be hidden damage in the engine compartment and possible fuel contamination. If any of the fuel lines got ripped open in the crash you could have contaminants in a VERY expensive fuel system.
Other than that I couldn't think of much that would be damaged by laying on it's side. Whatever you do make sure you check the fluids before starting!
Is there any way for engine oil to leak into the air filter/intake? I know it's no lawnmower but oil comes out everywhere on small engines when they are tipped.
Don't rip me if this is stupid. Just trying to cover everything I can think of.
