'95 302 True Dual Help
-Thanks-
My truck has these things and I have built a custom single system for my truck with longtube headers. Duals are simply not practical since everything has to be run down the passenger side anyway.. the midship tank gets in the way, so I went with a 3" single. And yes there are some good bends in the system as it routes around between the trans crossmember and transfercase. I used mendrel bent tubing sections that were cut and welded together one piece at a time which was pretty labor intensive, the system does work and sounds really good. If I were to do it again I'd either get headers with Ball & Socket collectors or convert the headers to that style because the butt flange type connections never seal that well.
Using shorties with a Magnaflow or Bassini Y pipe and whatever cat-back you like would certainly be much easier and quicker to install, I am seriously tempted to go this route when I put my 5.8 back in, I like longtubes but nobody makes them in stainless for a decent price and I'd rather have that extra durability. The Flowtech longtubes I have on the truck now are lousy, I mean they fit in there without interfering with anything but they hang too low which makes routing the pipes over the cross member difficult, and they're just painted steel so they won't last. The only upside is I didn't pay much for them. Have a look at my pictures here.. New Exhaust - a set on Flickr
