Well im changin my fuel tank sending unit this weekend...Any tips or tricks that i should know bout before i dive right in? Would it be easier to just drop the tank or take the bed off?
Edit-Its an 86 150 with an efi 302 and a 4 speed...dont know if yall need to know that or not
When I changed mine I dropped the tank. Careful you don't wreck the electric plug. I found it easiest to remove the filler hose and the plug and hoses before removing the straps. The front strap bolts are kinda hard to remove.
Ya i know straps aint cheap so im gonna be very careful im just trying to figure out the easiest and fastest way to do this..i also found out that my tank may be leaking. Theres what looks like fluid leaking out and its eating away the paint or whatever is on the outside of the tank and i can smell raw gas like no other.
The bed removal pretty much requires either an extra body or 2, or another method of lifting it.
Dropping the tank can be done by one person, assuming it isn't full of fuel. Hint, fuel weighs in around 7-8LBS/gal.
im gonna have my buddy over helping me out..but like i said if its easier to drop the tank ill do it that way, if its easier to lift the bed il do it that way
Truely, it's pretty much a wash on which is easier. Most people choose dropping the tank so it can be inspected, cleaned, and repaired as needed. Having 1/2" of grime in bottom of a tank isn't a good thing, and getting it cleaned out pretty much requires having it removed from the vehicle.
This method also allows checking/replacing the padding that's between the the mounts and tank.
