i wouldn't say shackles are a bad idea in every application; i've been running 1.5" lift shackles with 4" lift springs for over 3 years now, problem free.
Do you have the front drop brackets as well? Or just the rear shackle? And how long is the shackle? (center of bolt to center of bolt)

That's correct, they did not cause the collision. However, they caused much greater damage to his truck. Should have been body damage and maybe front frame damage, NOT axle, driveshaft, transfer case, and frame damage.

NEVER use a front lift block. There is alot more lateral force being put on that axle than the rear, they do spit themselves out and that is why everyone says DONT DO IT! My buddy's father was nearly killed when he spit out a front lift block on the highway. I'd have to do my research but I also believe they are illegal pretty much everywhere. If its just a trail rig who cares, but when you drive it on the street you are not only risking your life but everyone else's out there.
