NOS service block -

What would a reasonable person pay for a NOS block (4.05 bore, part number C8AZ-6010-C, tag number D7TE-6010-FA) be worth? I'm assuming it is a service block based on the tag number. It comes with a C3AZ-7007-F plate.

Thanks!

Is it an FE or FT? It could be either. I don't have my numbers book. Is it a bare block? I'm guessing around 250 bucks but I'm not sure. You can go get a standard but worn 390 block from the junkyard with a crank and rods for around 70 bucks. Another 80 bucks to have it bored and honed. Not sure that I would spend too much on one. No real advantage. Now if you get it sonic checked and it makes a good 428 block you can get some more.

I don't see those numbers in the Steve Christ book, either. Yes, it's a bare block. It's on ebay, close to me, so I thought I would ask. It's already been bid significally higher than the numbers you are quoting.

Thanks for the input.

Pat

I can't find that on ebay. What is the number? I see no reason to pay that much myself. It probably has reinforced main webs but so do the blocks made after 1973. I suppose it would require no machine work so you would save that money. That is assuming the cylinder walls haven't rusted while in storage.

I chacked out the auction. Block looks pretty rough. All Machined surfaces look good from the distance photo was taken. I would suspect they will need honed at the very least. The lifter valley is rusted to crap as well as most of the other nonmachined areas. I wouldn't bid any more than what the auction is currently at, $395. I believe it to be a service block. That leads me to beleive it aint going to be quite as good a block as some others. I could be wrong, but better safe than sorry.

I did some reading, the ole How to Build a Big Block FORD, page 27 has a understanding part #'s section. In the prefix section it breaks down all the #'s in the prefix. such as C8AZ. The C8 means 1978. The A = Ford. The Z = a service part for FORD. Y would be for lincoln-mercury. X is extinct muscle parts program. And M is for Current motorsports program.

So what I am trying to say is," It is a service part for Ford. Probably a 390 casting." The 390 can be confirmed by the auction itself.

Someone shot me,I have entirely to much time on my hands.

I did not look at the e-bay deal but no way would I pay more than 50 bucks. Seasoned blocks that can be bored 30 over are available by the millions in junk yards and for 350 bucks you can get a complete running 390.

Leave it ALONE, TOOOOOO much money for a bare block that will have to be gone through before it can be used.

Scotty The C is for 1960 not 70, also the D4TE should indicate 1974 Truck engine. IMHO
