Let's qualify exactly what you mean by "getting up around 210 degrees". On the highway, or in heavy, stop and go traffic? Creeps up close to 210, but comes down again? How do you know it's really 210? What are you using for a gauge? Do you know if it's accurate? What radiator are you using? What temp thermostat? Are you using a pressure cap? Info please.

Plus...is the fan thermostatically controlled? At what temp does it come on and off? Actually, 210 is not that bad as long as it doesn't go much beyond 210.

I have a 192 degree thermostat and my fan comes on at 185. When im in town it gets to 210 on the highway im fine at 190-195. My concern is that in the summer months with my a/c on im gonna overheat. I knwo im kind of getting ahead of myself but id like to get it figured out so i dont miss out this summer. I have gotten some of the wetter water additive, Does it work the way they say?

I don't think you have a problem. The 210 in traffic is not bad. It moves up a little in town because you aren't getting as much air through the radiator then as you do on the highway. What is the core thickness? The thicker the core the harder it is to get air through it. I've found that a three row radiator actually cools better than a four row for that reason. A heavier duty fan with a bit more pull might help a little but I don't think it's worth that much concern. If the temp starts toward 230 with the A/C then you might want to do something...

Most of you are getting tried of hearing about a BB (with no centre cooling jackets) that I had in a ’37 Ford coupe (with no air flow). (Walker Rad) Always ran 220 but got it to stay there or lower, the most significant change was to a 160 stat (140 are available for boats)……… it doesn’t give extra cooling but it opens sooner to cool before it gets hot if that makes any sense.

Sdeweil had a very extensive thread (12 pages 174 posts) about this (460) touches on most items, recommended reading?

Oh Man OLD! Are you ever brave! You kind of side lighted it but I guess th eother guys are a little sleepy today. A comment like that usually sparks the "get your truck to run cooler by putting in a warmer thermostat" foolishness.

I agree with you though - mine was the same way....open sooner to cool before the temp creeps up!

Well, after all reading all i can im going to put my maradyne 16" in front of my a/c condenser and try a high volume flex fan on motor. I wouldnt mind the extra volume at low rpm from flex, and them electric kicking in on highway. Does this sound like a reasonable try?

Not from what I've read here and else were. You can run one or the other, I went with an electric that has a adjustable termostat and pulls 3300 cfm. You can also add a overide switch.

A puller fan works better than a pusher. If you have the room the electric fan should be behind the radiator pulling not in front pushing. In front it could actually hinder the flow of air through the thick core. How much air does your Maradyne move? Do you have any space between the A/C condenser and the core? A little space there helps too.

well, I did some experimenting this weekend and had some mixed results. I first spaced my condenser about 3/4 of an inch from the radiator and it seemed to help cool it some. I then tried my old flex fan and it helped quite a bit. i used to cruise around at about 205 now with the space and the flex fan i cruise at about 190. the flex fan seems to pull alot more air. i think im good to go. thanks for all the responses..

That's great news!

Sometimes with this stuff a few little "finese" adjustments makes all the difference in the world!
