Just bought an 06 with 44,000 miles on it.I bought it with a noise in the motor. It starts up fine with no top end noise but after running a few minutes you can start to hear some pretty ugly noises from the bottom end and it skips a little. There is no indication of excessive cooling system pressure and the coolant bottle is clean and the coolant does'nt smell like exhaust.I am thinking maybe a rebuilt crank kit and maybe replace any damaged connecting rods if any have spun bearings.I have rebuilt many engines in the past of all types but have never tackled a modular V-8.I see in the shop manual that a lot of special tools are needed.Does anyone on this forum have the tools to rent.I don't plan to ever do this again and I hate to spend all the money on tools.Any suggestions as to what I might find when I pull it apart would be appreciated.I can find junkyard motors but they are like 1500 to 2000 dollars and you're buying a pig in a poke if you go that way.I would rather build what I have as it is still running so I am hoping that it is not damaged beyond repair. Thanks in advance for your help.
A very common cause of engine noise in these 3 valve engines is damaged cam journals in the heads due to lack of oil changes. This causes loss of oil pressure in the cylinder heads. this loss of pressure will make a very noisy engine because the lifters, phasers, and chain tensioners all operate on oil pressure.

Call and talk to some reps. I had an out of warranty transmission replaced on a Honda before. Had 55k and the tranny died. All I had to do was pay labor which added up to around $300
