hey guys i got a 88 idi 5spd. the issue is when i try n set the cruse control it floors it self or it will floor it then let off then floor it again ect. also then i bought it the prior owner put a button start on it, guessing to by pass the clutch in safety. help please!
Clutch safety switch only affects it if you push the clutch in, if it acts up without you shifting gears that sounds to me like a misadjusted linkage issue - pop the cruise cable off your IP throttle arm, with the engine off there should be very little slack in it.
my truck does the same thing and has since i bought it, are you running larger than stock tires? i always figured it was something to do with the tire size throwing off the vehicle speed sensor or just plain old too much tire not enough gear
It ain't the tires, they will cause you actual ground speed to be off what the gauge tells you (indicated speed), but they will not cause any issue maintaining said indicated speed.
i don't actually know what all the vss does, i believe it has something to do with telling the abs computer what to do and i know the tires made abs worthless(locks up and then lunges a few feet and locks again) so i thought maybe the two might be linked
My 88 with a C6 does the samething. I was told to check the computer boards behind the buttons in the steering wheel. I look and mine were all coroded, never replaced them though. I don't like cruise
Thanks guys ill check my linkage and see what I get.

well since your 88 does not have a VSS, you don't have to worry about that.
you could have a vacuum leak in the cruise control accumulator. that is what was wrong with my 88.

Okay do you know where I can get a vacuum line digram?
