Hi, I have a 77 f150 with the 351m engine. I noticed that there is fluid pooling up on top of the block right behind the intake manifold. Right around the oil pressure sensor.
Anyway I got under there and collected some of the fluid expecting it to smell of fuel, but it has no smell at all. Could this be a coolant leak caused by a bad intake manifold gasket? I assume that there are coolant passages in the intake manifold on these engines. Ive also been trying to fix (what I thought was an exhaust leak) for a long time now and am wondering if the noise im hearing is due to that intake not sealing.
Thanks in advance for all the help.
The intake manifold has no coolant passages. The head gasket is probably your best bet. Pressurize the cooling system and see if you can make it leak before you tear things apart.
This might sound dumb but is it water? The seal between the cowl and the hood leaks on most of these trucks and rain will pool in that area of the block.

Yep. I bet thats exactly what it is. The truck doesnt even have that seal anymore. And it has been raining a lot lately. Thanks for the info!
