Block filling???

Has any one herd of taking a 390 that has been bored 060 over filling the block in with filler and bore even more and making a 428 out of it? I was wondering if any one has done this and if it is very strong. I am thinking about doing this for a towing aplication in a 71.

This is a bad idea for what you are going to use the block for. You should be able to find a 390 block that goes to 4.13" with thick enough cylinder walls. You may have to sonic check a couple. There is minimal benefit of going to a 4.13" bore. Ford started doing this with the 406 to get every pony possible out of it in the racing world. A 410 will only loose a couple ft. lbs and no horsepower over a 428. Filling the block will make the filled part of the cylinder very hot. People race with filled blocks becasue they are running down the track for 1/4 mile and they get a chance to cool the engine. They would not last very long in city traffic towing something. If you want to go to a 428 bore get a 73 or later pickup block or a 361/391FT block.

Would it be a good Idea to do that to a block and keep it for racing? I dont like to waste a FE block even though they are every whare, But thank you for the facts.
