OK I HAVE A 93 F-150 2WD A40D EXTENED CAB 5.0 I HAVE A SURGING VIBRATION AT LOW RPMS LIKE 1300-1800 RPMS TRUCK HAS 215K BUT MOTOR AND TRANS HAVE 61K THEY ARE REMANS I HAVE DONE A COMPLETE TUNE UP BUT DIDNT SOLVE THE PROBLEM IT DOES WHILE IN PARK OR NUETRAL AND WHEN YOU ARE GOING THRU TOWN AT 25-30 MPH IT IS BAD.. BUT LIKE I SAID IT DOES IT MOVING OR SITTING STILL COULD IT BE THE CLUTCH FAN? OR THE CONVERTER OR SOMTHING ELSE YOU GUYS ARE THE PROS AT THESE TRUCKS SO CAN YOU PLEASE HELP?
First off turn off the CAPS LOCK. Next describe what your "complete tuneup" consisted of. How long has this miss been present? What was done before the miss appeared? What else have you done to diagnose/fix the problem?
Too many times someones posts a similar story like yours, we give some suggestions but the OP replies back, "I've already done that".
well i just got the truck 2 weeks ago have the paper work on the engine and trans anyway i am a autotech but i work at a rolls royce & bentley shop so dont see many fords that is why i turned to you guys . as far as the tune up it got new plugs, cap, rotor, wires i had this same problem a few years ago in a 89 4x4 5.0 auto and never could figure it out and it is driving me crazy any ideas i try to pulled codes but there is none also how do you check to see if the tv cable is adjusted right i will check this later on my lunch break around 6 or 7pm thanks and sorry bout the caps lock
if it is an E4OD which is the most common of the transmissions for a 93 you will not have a TV cable as the shifts are controled by the pcm if it is an AOD then you would have a tv cable I dont have the AOD so i cannot tell you how to adjust the cable but it should be a straight forward process
At the very least when trying to check for codes you should get a System Clear of "111" space "111". Take a look here for the procedure to pull codes without a code reader or purchase one: Ford Fuel Injection How To Run a Self-Test. Please note, warm up the engine beofre running the code check and KOEO tests.
There have been a few service bulletins issued concerning proper spark plug wire routing. Just make sure to keep them as far apart as possible.
i did get the 111 code and the engine was warmed up i also noticed on the way to work tonite that when its cruisin at low rpms it kinda misses a little is it possible the tps could be bad? i think tps may be the stumble miss but i also think after reading on here more it maybe be the torque shudder? let me know thanks
ok another update as i was checking the routing of my wires to make sure they werent touching and i noticed i could smell antifreeze from the intake area could this be a cause of the miss and vibration at the lower rpms could it be the plunam or the intake i didnt see a leak at the thermostat but i did notice that at some point somthing was leaking under the throttle body thanks
Do a complete trans service, drain/refill torque converter. The torque converter shudder manifests itself at around 35-40mph, and can mimic engine problems (electrical/fuel delivery).
If there is a shudder/vibration at idle as well as at speed as you indicated earlier it's time to look at some basics. Pull the plugs and look for deposits. Look for one or more plugs that look gas or oil fouled as well as dry plugs. It may be an injector is leaking or not operating properly. You could have a distributor problem (worn bushing causing spark scatter). Before tossing money at it I would also suggest a simple compression test on each cylinder.
well done complete trans service no change in vibration i did notice that you can feel it slightly at idle but it is getting horrible around 30mph going thru town and its like it comes and goes like it starts light then gets heavy the get light then heavy i have know idea but its driving me crazy
