OK, easy question for you guys. I swapped in a 302/aod and took it for it's first "spin" today. I didn't get too far before I turned around because of a brake problem (among others). If I step on the brake at all, the pedal gets sucked down further and locks up the wheels until I manually pull the pedal back. I'm assuming it is a vacuum related problem?
right now, the vacuum booster line is plumbed into the manifold for vacuum. Is that a no-no? I'd try just switching it but I'd be out a plug and I am poor at the moment.
3 years ago when the 360 went caput the brakes were perfect! thanks in advance for info.
I've put this off as long as possible and it still hasn't fixed itself! Bah.
The brake booster is at least partially at fault. It looks like moisture has gotten in between the master and booster. The pushrod is all rusty, and that is preventing the pedal & brakes from returning to the disengaged position. I've cleaned as much of the shaft as possible (with pedal depressed) and it's better but not good enough.
Does any one know a good way to repair this? I hate to buy a new one...mostly because I'm cheap. And partially because the booster still works. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Right, I verified that I have the correct vacuum lines hooked up, and even tried a different source just to be sure. I think that a lack of resistance through the master is what is allowing it to compress with little or no help from my foot.
The only spring I find on mine is on the booster itself - I don't see one on the pedal.
Thanks for the reply, John!
there is a joint on the back side of the booster that will rust up and make the pedel stick if thats what your saying. Then spray lube or some P.B.Blaster behind booster and work the pedel .It should free up.
Thanks for the ideas. The sticking was a problem with the booster, but also there were master cylinder related problems. I broke down and spent $100 and replaced them both. Problem solved.
Now, I can move on to the next major problem! haha
