Just got done(well,, almost) putting a D60 under the front of my 79 Bronco. I have the track bar mounted with the fabbed bracket on the axle. I re-installed the factory TREs to get the hubs straight. Then I noticed it was really close to my front shock mounts on the radius arm caps. Will high steer or cross over steering allow me to use both quad shocks on the front axle, or am I gonna have to chose one or the other??? I am planning on using DOM with rod ends. Or maybe someone knows a way I can still use them both,,,
Maybe give some feedback between using the quads, or just using 2 of them.
Well,, That blows! lol
Guess that will save me some money on the high steer arms to get another set of shocks for the moment. Maybe even a rim or two. I have no rims to put my tires on and the Bronco is still sitting on blocks while the tires take up room in my shed!
Actually with a full diameter coil spring, it is difficult to even use a true crossover style design.
While inverted "T"style steering can function, the steering arm (X-over) will be very limited with a coil spring design.
Full lock to lock turns will be an issue.
Smaller diameter coil overs will solve this, but this might be an alternative that might not fit most budgets.
I used the spacer between the radius arm and caps, and when I re drilled mt bucket hole. I bolted up first to the rear hole and drilled the front. So that gave me SOME room to play with,
I don't see how the coil springs would give any issues with steering components??
ps-where the eff have you been?
As I recall a standard KP steering arm is a little on the short side for full lock to lock turning. The drag link tries to strike the coil during full left or right rurns. This is compounded by any high steer upgrade, since the ford knuckels are a bit on the short side as well, and the tie rod becomes closer to center during the same lock to lock turn.
Same reason why aftermerket diff covers create clearance issues.
Perhaps this is only with larger diameter drag links, but I do think I remember this being a bit of an issue during a recent build.
Might be because I used (excuse me,,,,tried to use) a 1.5" diameter
chro- mo drag link with 1.25" rod ends, and the axle was moved forward about a foot............ but I do believe that this was still an issue when the axle was in the stock location.
This is very similar to forward shocks on either a standard quad shock set up, or even a stock D60 front shock for the pass side.
Ive been around. Little here, and a little there, but still aorund.
I don't know mang, looking at my bronco even with high steer I don't think there will be any problems. The coils sit back way further the radius arm caps.
Paul, he's right. When you put the real high steer caps on, they will knock the lower coil bucket. I know this is the case for a kp 60, not positive on the bj 60's though.
