Gas tank options

Ok, I've thought about this a few times but now I'm intersted in this idea but want to get some feedback. Has anyone ever put a saddle type tank on an f-1? I know that the '42-'47s had it and then the f-100s, but not the f-1s. Was there a major reason for this? And how much room is usually given for the drive shaft, an estimate is good enough for me. Also, these are 16 gallon tanks aren't they? And were did the necks go out and through on the f-100s? I beleive that the 40s tank went out the side under the frame from the tank and through the corner of the cab, did the f-100s do that?

Gas tank options

Clayton,
I have a '59 F100. Originally, the fuel filler neck came out on the driver's side behind the door seam just above the height of the door handle. Between the grommet and the gas cap, it stuck out a good 2"-3". Unfortunately, that is about all I can address on your post.... sorry.

Another question, does anyone know of a source that sells polyurathane (sp?) replacements for these trucks? I heard that they help out alot on vapor lock. I don't have trouble with that, but some day, who knows, don't want to feel like a dodge owner or something as everyone passes by on the highway. Also in case I've confused some of you f-1 owner's when I said saddle type tank I ment one that bolts to the frame like the newer ones do. I acctually thought that they had them under the seat like on my '41. Mainly because of the filler neck being so low on the cab. Anyways, thanks.

I hope these folks are still in business. They made a poly 53-55 F100 tank that you might be able to adapt:
"Tanks", Inc.

Good Luck!
