I noticed a sorta miss tonight while driving down the highway at about 60. It acted like it would if you let the fuel off a little then hit it again. The fuel filter is new. I checked to flow at the schrader valve and it was good as well. The injectors have aout 6000 miles on them. The ip mileage is unknown but is a rebuilt one. I have also noticed a slight miss at idle but only when it is in gear. If it is the ip what places seem to be best right now for getting an other one. I know that guys on here don't care for some of the rebuilders so your input is highly valued.
That was my thought as well star but for the life of me I don't know what else it could be. I hope it is not the injectors, I hate to think they would be going basd in this short of time. I guess I could pull them and find a local shop to have them pop tested.
The slight miss when idleing in gear is sorta hit and miss. The thing it did tonight was not regular but vary random. it almost felt like I was hitting a real stong head wind but you could also hear it in the engine.
some people claim the new injectors will make a worn out IP start to fail, from the new and fresh stronger pressure that's required to open the new injectors.
this couldn't be a sign of which star?
kinda sounds like water in the fuel tho doesn't it? or just a batch of poor fuel.
i wounder if the quart of trans fluid in the tank trick would be worth the try?
Water in the fuel stopps up your filter and starts getting sluggish usually.
It could also be an interuption to the power supply to the fuel pump, maybe the relay. I kinda doubt it though as it probably wouldn't really be noticable real quick. Are the screens still on the fuel pump in that rig.
Yes the screen is there and is new. I put it in back in november with tranny number 3 lol. I wonder if it may be the fuel pump its self. It is the high pressure unit and I am useing a bypass regulator on it. I also have the fuel pump and the fsv on a relay together. it has power with the key on. Would it act like this if the pump was getting weak. It has good pressure with the key on but I could hear a slight difference in the sound it made when I would press the schrader valve in. It would be the cheapest part of the bunch and the easiest to change lol.
It is possible but I would think that pump would have to be on its last leg not to have 4 pounds pressure. You might run a volume test though as it may not be keeping up.
I did the volume test. Maybe it is the soleniod itself? Could it be going bad? I am just sorta thinking out loud and bouncing ideas off you lol. want to figure this out with out spending big bucks.
I just fixed a similar problem on my truck this weekend. Started out as a slight miss while crusing then progressed to sometimes stuttering at an idle, then it would just die going down the road after a decent acceleration. It passed pressure and volume test at schrader valve, but with the pressure guage hooked up and throttle pushed the pressure would drop a couple pounds. Anyways long story short the screen on the fuel pump was partialy clogged. I know you said yours is relatively new but it is something you may want to check.
Kenobuck I have no experiance here, but I have read that the zinc coating in gas tanks deteriorates when you use diesel in them, I used the gas tank in my old 76 and never had a problem, but that may have been brfore they starting using zinc. Just a thought.
When I got this truck the tank was rusted out of it so I bought a new one. Being the cheap skate I am I bought the cheapest i could find and it was just plain steel. I didn't know about the diesel and zinc thing back then but I geuss ti was for the best. I checked the screen tonight and it looks clean still. I haven't been able to make it repeat the problem so maybe it was just a loose connection somewhere. Pulling the pump on this rig is easy since I cut the acess hole in the back last year lol. Thanks for all the help guys, i just hope it behaves it's self for awhile lol. I have to go get an other Bronco up by muncie ind. in a couple weeks. At least this time I will have a pyro and brake controller hooked up lol.
