Boomer1956, check ebay, I purchased the version 8P for about $100 and havent had a reason to update since. What version are you running now? Depending on your area they havent added much in the way of roads. The main thing with updates is POI's.

I have the original with the truck from 2007. I do travel, all the midwest states, have driven to Yellowstone, son playing ball in college so I still have some driving to do. what version? How do I check that. Plus the postcard from FMC never talked about a specific version. Do I take the disk out, is it written on it?

My guess is you have version 4P. I would update to atleast version 8P
Easiest way to check is press the "menu" button, then press "system info" tab on the screen. This screen will show your current GPS location, model number, SAT ESN number and current MAP version. It also gives you the option of accessing the MAP DVD. You shouldnt have to remove the disc unless you are changing it out.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I did this for my wifes 2007 Expy but can't find the part number for the GPS antenna. Does anyone who has done this have that part number? I've checked Tasca and it shows 3 parts to the antenna. I have the satellite radio hook up. Ive checked my local ford parts but he was not sure about it either.

Any Help is greatly appreciated.

I think you were looking in the wrong spot. There are two GPS antenna listed for 2007.

Part # 7L1Z-10E893-A prior to 12/6/06 and then changed to 8L1Z-10E893-A after 12/6/06

Hey folks... I understand he appeal of retrofitting with the oem nav, but is it worth it when you can dash mount a tablet which offers many more features than just a navigation program?

I am somewhat biased as I have a iPad mounted in mine.

I found that under 1k, not only am I getting navigation but...
Digital music, Streaming music, Trip monitor and etc..
Plus the ability to remove it for security as well as use it in another vehicle.

Just wondering..

It's all personal preference, I wanted the OEM look, have no desire for staming music or the ability to move to another car and since you can buy used units for less than 300 dollars including the programming, I am also well below the 1,000 that you spent.

Hey, this has been a great thread. I'm in a 2007 expedition eddie bauer without navigation and would like to get nav as well as back up camera. What I was wondering, and forgive me if it was already stated in this thread, or someplace else, but does the factory navigation system in anyway put out more wattage, or in any way, shape, or form, outperform the standard 6-disc changer unit that I have currently? I think my set up is rated at 340 watts, not sure how much of that is sub output. Also, a headunit from a navigator vs the expedition, are they identical? Because I think the navigator has more speakers and is thx certified, but maybe those differences are all outside the head unit.

The NAV unit is the same wattage as the 6 disc Audiophile unit, most of the wattage is from the sub amp.
The NAV units from the Navigator and Expy are not interchangable as the Navigator one goes thru a seperate DSP module/amp before heading to the speakers. The lighting color, faceplate color and display are setup different too.

Thanks for the info Matt. I think I might be leaning towards an aftermarket Alpine unit INE-S920HD and adding the KTP-445A, a 45x4 rms amp that can be plugged into the back of the head unit for some more jam. Still a fan of the rotary volume ***** and seems like most aftermarket gps units are going away from that in favor of bigger screens. You can still retain factory steering wheel controls and RES with adapters. Not sure about speed sensitive volume control though

You can buy them all of the time on ebay for under $300. Programming costs between $100 and $150 (if you can find someone to do it). I actually have one that is already programmed to work on the 03-06 Expedition. I used it in my wifes before we traded it in on our new to us Navigator. I would be willing to sell it if anyone is interested.

Navigation install/equipment help

I loved this forum since we are now in a similar situation. Sorry if this has become repetitive but wondering if anyone can help us. We purchased a 2012 Ford expedition xlt recently and it did not have navigation but we were looking to add it. For some reason we are leaning towards a oem factory unit. Of course we have found some compatible ones on ebay. But I'm assuming we will need proper wiring for most. We are pretty new at this. Does anyone have advice on what parts we would need and or where to find them at reasonable cost. Found an upgrade brick kit on ebay for $400 that included amplifier w/t-harness, RH steering wheel control switch, procedure 1 and 2 harness, brick pins, and gps splitter. We are so new to this we aren't sure if what we will need to install everything properly and what would be a reasonable price for it all. We have sync capabilities, backup cam on the rear view mirror, not sure what else to share but hoping someone can help.
Thanks in advance
