Hi,
I have had this truck for a couple of years now, Haven't been driving it lately as i have lent it to A family member.
I got it back and now its is leaking oil from the Diff at the Cv joint, and the Rack and pinoin has also developed a leak where the boot is for the tierod.
What do i need to do to fix this? and are these hard things to do?
Also now when i put it in gear it hesitates for a second or 2 before it goes into gear. Both reverse and forward. Once it is in motion the tranny acts as normal. Does it need a tranny flush? or other repair?
Thanks, Its a 2002 Limited Explorer 4.6 with the 5 speed.
I had that tranny problem last year. It would hesitate when you put in gear, then a little clunk sometimes. I took it to Ford and they replaced the solenoid in the tranny. Tried charging me $1200. After ten minutes of yelling in front of some customers it was $800. I was not happy, went down the roads to the next Dealership and they said it was a $4-500 repair.............So beware.....haha
The rear end leak Im sure is the axle seal. Pretty common, and there is an updated seal kit for it. Its not "too" hard if your an average DIYer, but not the most easy task.
The trans is probably like mentioned, the solenoid pack. They can be had on ebay for under $300ish and are not hard to install yourself. DO NOT use an aftermarket pack, they are JUNK.
