I have a 1972 F250 with an FE360. The engine has run its life and now I want to drop in a fuel injected. I was thinking about a Triton 5.4. Any suggestions as to if this will work or what might work better? I'm familiar with the edelbrock manifolds, but I need a whole engine anyway. Thanks.
I think you should look at moving your sheetmetal over to a truck with that engine/tranny setup. You would get a better riding chassis, and modding the body bed above the chassis might prove to be easier.
Or: buy a donor truck with the engine tranny so you can harvest everything, including the exhaust and all of the sensors needed to run the computer engine.
I think it would make a great project either way. Add turbo and you would have an awesome setup.
I can't argue with John, dropping the body on a late model frame would be a cool pickup. On another note: I'm dropping in a 302 (carbed) and looking at it, a FI 351W would be a relatively easy swap I think. This would maintain similar engine displacement and drop a couple hundred (?) pounds off the front of the truck. Swing in an overdrive trans and you should have a powerful but somewhat economical ride. I would expect this to be cheaper than a 5.4 swap and am personally a sucker for old school V8's.
Dropping in an overdrive trans, you may want to consider your differential gearing. My 3.50 with 30 in tires should yield 1800 RPM at 70...not good! Haha.
Good luck!
