The MPG thread
I have not put enough miles on mine to find out and I really want to know what these trucks are getting.
EDIT: crap, I meant to do a poll and FTE messed it up.
Everybodys rig is set up different as far as pumps and exhaust, In your area if you get under 10 loaded you need to start thinking about upgrading the exhaust.
Loaded keep it around 2500 rpm, running empty 2000 or as close as you can and you will do pretty good.
Ofcourse if you drive like a 17 year old expect 3 or 4 lol I couldn't help it.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
but i keep using yahoo maps,to total the miles driven from/to exact locations and even giving the benefit that i used ALL 4 gallons (which i know i don't,because i still have fuel in the tank, higher reading on the gauge than when i put fuel in.i don't want to run out of course.) and i still show above 20 MPG always.
i just figured yesterdays for example.
i was right around E on my tank.i put 4 gallons exactly in.
i drove from place to place, and yahoo maped the route just now.
i drove 80 miles until i stopped for fuel again.i know for a fact,i was still above E.but i had to get some of course.
but say i used all 4 gallons even.this is 20 mpg right here.
realistically.i had a good solid gallon left.but this would show 26 MPG.and i just can't buy this myself.
if i where to split the difference and call it 3.5 gallons used,id have 22.8 MPG.
this is probably close guys.i know it sounds kinda crazy, but i keep doing this, and keep finding 20+ MPG.
this was all empty running, back rds/nice big rd combo.doesn't seem to matter much tho,as long as i start out easy and keep it around 45-50 mph.
it did include a ton on the back, but only for 15 miles or so.that's when i got more fuel to come home.
hopefully(well kinda/in a way lol) work slows back down,so i can replace the fuel tanks and do other work i want to the rig before the season really picks up.
then i can start recording accurate fuel mileage.
i hang right around 16-1800 rpms most of the time, and start out easy when i have to take off.not, real slow, but just easy going.my average speed of 45/50 is way under what most of you guys seem to be willing to try though lol.im used to it,as a lot of roads i travel, that's the speeds limits.
im really looking forward to the good fuel(not winter blend) and getting my exhaust opened up,along with the intake mod.
i know its hard for some of you guys, but man,if you can take off easier, and slow down a bit, these rigs are impressive for economy.
edit,
also note im running very narrow tires w/max tire measure.
225/75/16's (29.3X8.9)
K&N air filter.
B&M shift kit in the trans.
just trying to think of all things that are not stock, that may be contributing to increased mileage.i think that's it so far.overdrive, and driving habits are the big ones i would say.
edit again lol,
you know what, this actually included a little idle time at the job.i hooked up to a tree i just finished cutting the top out of,i hook a rope to the top when im up there bringing it down in sections.well,if there's enough room,i will drop a section of the bottom trunk when doing a removal like this.so for 10 mins or so,i had the truck working/slowly putting a strain on the trunk,to pull it away from a house.this uses a little fuel as well, that goes unaccounted for in mileage.as well as moving around/backup up to load up wood/brush etc.
i haven't hooked up to my 2k lb chipper yet.can't wait to see how she goes with that.
i may run out and hook her up and go for a drive and see today.kinda curious (waiting on new chipper knifes to come.)
Me drive like a 17 year old? Why would I do that?
