hard starting

my brothers 1981 f100 w/ 4.9 it will crank over and start fine cold but when @ running temp cranks slow if at all like dead battery but when cools down fine why? (starter, valves?)

Check the timing. It sounds like it's too far advanced.

If the timing is fine, make sure you do not have an exhaust leak puffing on the starter.
