KLUNKING SOUND!

Have '88 BII 4WD. Last few days whenever i take a LEFT turn and then almost straighten up i get a loud KLUNK and a definite sideways JERK from the REAR END. Sounds like it's coming from the RIGHT REAR AREA. Think maybe BEARING? Noticed they make a REPAIR BEARING for these Trucks. Exactly what do they Repair? The Shaft or the Housing? Anyways, what ya reckon is causing that? THANKS!!!

Check your leaf springs, spring mounts, etc. Also check the axle/wheel bearings and C-clip(s) inside the rear differential. Sounds like something has gone bad.....

My '88 would klunk and feel as if it had been hit with a sledge hammer in a turn. one of the radius arm bushings had deteriorated to the point it could rap the frame.

Yeah... forgot about that.... could be bushings (leaf spring, shackle, radius arm... anything suspension related....)

KLUNKING?

Put new Radius Arm Bushings on a few months ago. Torqued em to specs. Will check them though. Then if o.k. will jack the rear end up and put the "ol gal" on jackstands and find out what the problem is. Will do that this weekend and let ya know what the problem was. I sure appreciate all the help; don't know what i'd do without FTE's. Those Chilton and Haynes Books are good but not like experienced and personal help ya get on here! THANKS!

repair bearing is a piece of crap. it just moves the bearing surface in off the groove worn in the axle. tried it, found the o ring axleshaft seal thats built in is just large enough to leak. and you cant use a stock seal because of the way its built. if your not leaking oil out the end, or hearong a constant noise, chances are its not the bearing.
